Just to start this new topic off, I have been mapping for a while and I have never had a problem such as puzzling as this Now I have been working on a scary map full of thrills and chills for Garrys Mod and I felt like adding a door with a breakable lock so I select prop_dynamic and place it in the map, I then choose the name and click on world model, I select browse to choose a model but then find myself waiting and then Hammer decides to close itself down, loosing all the work I have done and it wont recover the autosave Now this hasn’t been happening lately until I had gotten my new Pc with vista and so on...... Does anyone have any ideas or solutions to my problem? Also, sorry but I am unable to upload some of my map screenshots until I resolve this problem.

The only bad thing now is that i need to start all over again........ This is going to take a while Another way i could do this is if anyone had a site which has the names of every world model so all i would have to do is enter the name of the model instead of risking the loss of my map by pressing the browse button

I anyone else is having this problem then i have found a solution: go into Tools -> Options -> General and uncheck the option for the VGUI browser. It knocks you back to the old folder browser version, but it's better than it not working. Problem solved

I hate it when things go wrong with hammer, especially when you can't get back the file that you worked so hard on, the same thing happened to my remake of the Halflife 1 hazard course.

My guess: VIsta Problems. Hammer 3.1 nor Source Hammer have crashed.. well , closed down on me. I'd check if Vista is that compatible. Edit: I'm using XP. Media center edition. (Stupid USB Converters for Composite cables don't work : Get them built in.)

Seems Valve didn't do a really good job when building Hammer Editor... Really, it's even more unreliable than EA's Worldbuilder - and that's the suckiest editor *ever*!
